Schedule of the Dead…

Hysteria Fest is back for its third year, and it has grown quite a bit. The festival will run for 5 days, from June 27th - 30th 2024. Join us for 4 days and over 50 films. Stand by for films have played at other major horror festivals around the world including Fright Fest, Fantastic Fest, Fantasia, and Panic Fest, along with a couple of premiers of our own. October 18th Viva La Opening Night

7pm – An introduction to the festival and of the films we’ll be playing. A quick introduction to the French Extremity Movement.
7:30pm – Q & A with Justine Peres Smith - The screen editor for Cult MTL, a contributor to Little White Lies, Hyperallergic, Roger Ebert, and other publications. And she is a programmer at the Fantasia Film Festival. She is a foremost expert on the French Extremity Movement
8pm – Secret Screening: one of the defining films of the French Extremity Movement

Thursday, October 19th

6pm – BLISS OF EVIL
A sound engineer is forced to confront her trauma when she and her girlfriend’s grunge band are trapped in a recording studio by a shadowy killer.

8pm – THE ONCE AND FUTURE SMASH (Double Feature)
In 1970, Mikey and William both portrayed football cannibal Smash-Mouth in the influential cult hit, End Zone 2. Now, 50 years later, only one can wear the mask.

9:30 – END ZONE 2
Fifteen years after the events of End Zone, Smash-Mouth is back to finish off the cheerleaders who killed his mother.

Friday, October 20th

6pm – Slashers and Stalkers
A shorts block containing the best slasher films currently on the festival circuit, along with some films of stalking killers.
Films included: NIGHTMARE AT CAMP BLOODBATH, FLAPPY, THAT’S OUR TIME, RV MASSACRE, TROUBLE FOLLOWS, GLOVEBOX, IN THE MEANTIME, SLIP, CART RETURN, SCRIPT

12pm - FIRST ANNUAL HORROR AND UNIQUES FLEA MARKET

12pm – WORST LAID PLANS
Filmed in three different states by three acclaimed genre short film directors all making their feature debut. Three tales of vacation-themed horror adapted from the bestselling book by Grindhouse Press. In “Deep in the Heart” a fractured family tries to reconnect while touring a cave system that hides a horrifying secret. “You’ve Been Saved” is the story of two reunited friends on a road trip full of nostalgia and hangovers. When one of them is slipped a cryptic note by a young girl, their vacation takes a sinister turn. And finally, with “Taylor Family Vacation ’93” a father on vacation, determined to find out the truth behind whoever is stalking his family just out of sight, comes to the sobering realization that the answer he seeks might just be hidden within the contents of his video camera. Shot in West Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida, WORST LAID PLANS is the most ambitious independent horror anthology you’ll see this year!

2pm – THE WERD KIDZ
On a weekend campout, a dark monster terrorizes a group of campers who fall prey to an ancient legend and conspiring local townsfolk. For pre-teen Dug, Mel and Fatt, and Dug’s older brother and girlfriend, a night out in the desert becomes a survivalist horror adventure. Zach Passero’s heartfelt coming-of-age tale about growing up and surviving a night of terrors juggles frights, laughs and an amputated arm in this unique hand-animated joy ride of a creature feature.

4pm – The Haunting and The Wild
A short film block containing the most haunting, the spookiest and the just plain wildest short films currently on the festival circuit.
Film included: THE KNOWING, SUPREME CLAWS OF JUSTICE, BRUJA, GREETINGS, LIKENESS, THE PERFECT JUMP SCARE, THE DREAD, ‘NEATH, DEATHFLOW

6pm – PLANTASMA
EMILY, an up-and-coming musical artist, stuck in quarantine with no way to make a living, struggles with maintaining her sanity while dealing with the loss of her best friend, the lingering effects of a breakup, and the current state of the world. She attempts to center herself by meditating and practicing various self-care routines but ultimately her reality starts to blur as she becomes possessed by a demonic, carnivorous plant.

8pm – T BLOCKERS
Ancient parasites rise from a small town, taking the most fearful and susceptible hosts. A young filmmaker finds herself as the only one who can sense the possessed resistance before the horror escapes and spreads.
A Q&A immediately following the film with filmmaker Alice Maio Mackay.

Sunday, October 22nd

12pm – Viewer Discretion Advised.
This block is made of some of the more challenging short films currently on the festival circuit. Extreme violence, human cruelty and sexual assault is displayed in some of these films. As the title of the block suggest, viewer discretion is advised.

2pm – Animation/AGATHA
This block includes some of the best animated films, along with an insane live-action short about killer gnomes, all capped off by an hour-long animated feature.
Films included: BUZZKILL, A BLOODY GRAVEYARD STORY, GNOMES, AGATHA

4pm – BLUE HOUR: THE DISAPPEARANCE OF NICK BRANDRETH
True crime documentarian Olivia Brandreth was nine years old when her father disappeared. The official police statement was suicide though no body was ever recovered. Twenty five years later, Olivia has returned to her childhood home to finally get closure in an unrelenting attempt to set the record straight. Blue Hour chronicles the journey of a dedicated film crew in their search to figure out what really happened that night in 1997. When conversations with family and law enforcement offer hints at a yet
to be explained conspiracy, an increasingly dangerous truth comes to light. One that not only puts the lives of Olivia and her team at risk, but challenges the fabric of reality itself. In this genre-bending supernatural drama, Blue Hour manages to be both a thought provoking media criticism as well as a heartwarming story of self-discovery.

6pm – Action and Gore
A shorts block that includes some of the goriest and bloodiest horror filled with violence and exhilarating action.

8pm – MARTYRS
A young woman’s quest for revenge against the people who kidnapped and tormented her as a child leads her and a friend, who is also a victim of child abuse, on a terrifying journey into a living hell of depravity.
